Apple announces macOS Monterey, PC software update and notes


Apple announced on Monday (07), during WWDC 2021, macOS Monterey, its new operating system for computers and laptops. Among the main novelties, the successor to Big Sur will have Universal Control.

The tool will allow users to control both the computer and iPad with a single mouse and keyboard. In addition to software management, it will be possible to drag or copy and paste files from one device to another.

“Connect, share, and create like never before. Say hello to the exciting new FaceTime updates. Explore a redesigned and simplified Safari. Discover and invent powerful new ways to work using universal control and shortcuts. Stay in the moment with Focus. And much more,” the brand said of the OS.

  • FaceTime: the service will gain several new features, including SharePlay (chat rooms with series and movies, and music).
  • Spatial Audio: the voices of people who are in video calls sound from the angle they are on the other side of the screen. This serves so that conversations “flow more naturally”.
  • Safari: The Safari browser has been revamped and gained new features such as new tabs that take up less page space, floating tabs, access to groups of tabs anywhere, smart search, and more.
  • Focus: the setting will serve to pause notifications for a period, all so that the person can focus on work more easily.
  • Universal Control: one of the technologies that caught the most attention, Universal Control serves to integrate Mac and iPad. In addition to moving files between devices with a single mouse or keyboard, it will also be possible to type text on one device while it appears on the other automatically.
  • Live Text: this is Google Lens on Mac. Allowing transcription of text into images, this feature is also present in iOS 15.

Apple announced that the new MacOS Monterey will be released to users between September and December 2021.
