Microsoft starts selling Surface Laptop with an Intel Core m3 processor at $799
Microsoft is now selling an Intel Core m3 SKU of the Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S that’s priced at $799. The Intel Core m3 model appears to only be available in Platinum for now and is the US only at this time.
This is Microsoft’s new entry-level SKU for the Surface Laptop, which is available at a much more affordable price for many. This is definitely not a high-end model of the Surface Laptop with the same Alcantara fabric and high-quality display found on other Surface Laptop SKUs. It is a point the Microsoft has hammered home as it’s worked to make the products viable MacBook competitors.
As spotted by Windows Central, the Microsoft Store is now selling a $799 version of the Surface Laptop. The Surface Laptop with an Intel Core m3 processor has 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. These are the same specs found on the baseline Surface Pro also costs $799 (without a keyboard).
The Intel Core m3 model is an SKU aimed for college students or those that only do a bit of web browsing and email checking.
Intel originally introduced its Core m3 processors as the perfect chips for fanless designs. These processors won’t be as fast as the Core i5 and Core i7 chips found on premium Surface Laptop models.
A laptop with only 4GB of RAM isn’t exactly future-proof in 2018 but this should be more than enough for running the streamlined Windows 10 S. A $799 Surface Laptop is the most compelling of the bunch.
It’s also worth noting that the Core m3 Surface Laptop is only available in the Platinum color.
