Survey of Facebook users to determine trustworthy news sources
Zuckerberg says the second part of the company is going to fix the News Feed. The improved quality and trustworthiness will be based on the survey of social network’s community.
Previously, the news source or experts were making all the decision on the facebook. But now he decides to visit the community and take the survey. It brings the result in determining which news sources are most broadly trusted.
There is too much sensationalism, misinformation, and polarization. So this change will help to address such Facebook’s major problems.
Zuckerberg wrote that the hard question we have struggled with is how to decide what news sources are broadly trusted. We could try to make that decision ourselves, but that’s not something we’re comfortable with. We considered asking outside experts, which would take the decision out of our hands. But it would likely not solve the objectivity problem. Or we could ask you, the community and have your feedback determine the ranking.
“Social media enables people to spread information faster than ever before, and if we don’t specifically tackle these problems, then we end up amplifying them,” Zuckerberg said
Previously after alleged Russian operatives, the quantity of news on facebook called into question for-profit spammers and others spread false reports on the site during the 2016 U.S. election campaign.
This new update will not change the amount of news. It just shifts the balance of news you see towards sources.
We hope that the new update will help make Facebook time well spent by strengthening our relationships, engaging in active conversations. And whenever we read the news we make sure the news are from high quality and trusted sources.
