Windows 10 remains the most popular version among users of Microsoft’s operating system, being installed on more than 70% of computers globally. According to the latest data from the StatCounter platform, the old generation surpasses the number of Windows 11 installations.
According to the report closed in September, with the number of installations for the last 12 months, Windows 10 is present in 71.64% of PCs with Microsoft software. In the second position appears Windows 11, which is used in 23.61% of machines.
The analysis contemplates the other versions of Microsoft’s operating system, with Windows 7 closing the podium, with a 3.34% presence. Windows 8.1 with 0.61% share, Windows 8 with 0.35%, and Windows XP with 0.34% close the list.
The survey also shows the participation of each version in different regions and countries. In Brazil, Windows 10 holds 69.08% of the market, while Windows 11 comes with 21.35% and Windows 7 has 7.01%, followed by Windows XP with 0.9%, curiously ahead of Windows 8/8.1.

Improvements in the search for new users
In addition to losing the most popular Windows version title today, Windows 11 has a lower adoption rate than the last generation. By the time it was two years old, Windows 10 was on 32.84% of PCs worldwide, 10% more than the newest version at the time.
One of the reasons for the low adhesion may be the minimum requirements required for its installation, such as the presence of a compatible TPM module. At the time of the premiere, the software also received criticism for the changes in the taskbar and the Start menu.
On the other hand, Microsoft has invested in new features to attract more users to Windows 11. One of the most recent premieres is Copilot, a virtual assistant created in partnership with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.
With the promise of transforming the user experience, the tool takes artificial intelligence to various operating system services and programs. The new AI can activate features, create text summaries, generate and edit images, analyze files, and much more.
