Tools in Social Entrepreneurship: Insights from Hult Prize at IOE’s Fourth Talk Series

On January 28, 2025, the Hult Prize at IOE, Pulchowk Campus, hosted the fourth session of its Entrepreneur Talk Series, titled “Tools in Social Entrepreneurship,” at Embark College. This event provided aspiring changemakers with valuable insights into the methodologies and tools essential for navigating the evolving landscape of social entrepreneurship.

The program commenced at 1:00 PM with a traditional Khada presentation to the esteemed guests by Miss Riyaj Nepal, the Campus Director of Hult at IOE, Pulchowk Campus. Miss Saisha Shrestha, the Outreach and Partnership Lead of the Organizing Committee, hosted the session, welcoming participants ranging from students and young entrepreneurs to professionals eager to explore social enterprise as a vehicle for transformative change.

The highlight of the session was the engaging talks delivered by two accomplished speakers, Miss Preeti Adhikary and Mr. Aabhushan Jyoti Kansakar, who captivated the audience with their insights and experiences.

Miss Preeti Adhikary is a trailblazer in connecting global Nepali talent and the founder of The Great Nepali Diaspora. Her initiatives have established 18 chapters and 9 hubs, along with the successful organization of 150 events. Sharing her journey of building an impactful career spanning over two decades across tech startups, banking, and nonprofits, Preeti emphasized the importance of leveraging technology as a tool for expanding outreach and creating scalable solutions. She also spoke about her role as General Partner of Momo VC and her ongoing efforts to empower Nepali women through her initiative, Empowered Women. Preeti’s stories resonated deeply, inspiring attendees to think beyond conventional boundaries and embrace the potential of tools for global impact.

The participants connected with her as they attentively listened to her journey. Preeti encouraged young minds to focus on the essential tools in social entrepreneurship, which significantly include business principles with a social impact to address societal issues. She urged attendees to adopt startup methodologies that focus on creating Minimum Viable Products to test ideas quickly and cost-effectively.

To honor her contributions, Miss Adhikary received a handcrafted wooden token of appreciation from the gifting partner, CNC Kasthakala Nepal, along with a plant from the in-kind sponsor, The Plant Room Nepal, aromatic perfume from the gifting partner, Call Me Aroma, and a delicious sandwich from the food sponsor, Kantipur Coffee.

Following her session, the second guest speaker, Mr. Aabhushan Jyoti Kansakar, the CEO of Jeevee Nepal and the driving force behind six subsidiaries of the DebaJyoti Group, shared his entrepreneurial journey. His ventures, spanning diverse industries from trade to lifestyle products, have positioned him as a key contributor to Nepal’s economic growth. Through his role in the Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs, a nonprofit organization supporting over 800 members, he highlighted the significance of fostering a collaborative entrepreneurial ecosystem. Aabhushan’s talk inspired participants to adopt a forward-thinking mindset and utilize strategic tools for personal and societal advancement.

During his engaging session, Aabhushan shared anecdotes from his entrepreneurial journey, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs that shaped his path. He emphasized the importance of adaptability and strategic thinking in navigating competitive markets. His ventures not only drive business success but also create jobs and foster economic development, showcasing the potential of entrepreneurship as a force for societal progress.

Mr. Kansakar was also honored with a wooden token of appreciation, a plant, perfume, and refreshments from the event sponsors.
