The Giphy platform, which combines a huge collection of animated GIFs and allows them to be published on various messengers and social networks, is now part of the Facebook family. The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the acquisition of the tool on Friday, 15th May.
Figures have not been confirmed by the parties involved, but Axios reports that the deal has moved $400 million. Giphy will be part of the Instagram team, but integration with the company’s other services (Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp, among others) should increase even more.
The giant had likely been keeping an eye on the service for some time: Giphy was created in 2013 and, over time, became the official supplier of Stickers in Stories and Direct, in addition to Instagram’s standard animated GIFs search engine.
Future
In the official statement, the company also ensures that the development kit and integration tools on other platforms “are not going anywhere” and the tool ecosystem will be expanded. It will still be possible for the community to create and publish animations using the service.
