Nepal’s first-ever MLH Student-run Hackathon “BernHack 2020” concluded successfully

As we have already mentioned about the event BernHack in our previous post. But still, let me introduce you to the event so that new visitors can know about it. A group of students from Kathmandu BernHardt College organized the first-ever MLH member hackathon in Nepal. Moreover, named that hackathon event “BernHack 2020”.

While talking about MLH, it stands for (Major League Hacking) which is an official student hackathon league. They organize several tech programs worldwide to bring young hacking enthusiasts together.

Indefinitely BernHack 2020 was successfully concluded on 24-25 January at Kathmandu BernHardt College. Plus let me tell you that, it was the very first edition of BernHack and it was perfectly an amazing event led by the students.

More than 60 teams have participated in the event among all those, 34 best teams were selected for competing for the prizes.

Besides the team members, there were some representatives of MLH present at the hackathon.

  • Joe Nash: He is from the UK and works as APAC consultant for MLH
  • Yashovardhan Agrawal, Harshil Agrawal, Sashrika Kaur: They came from India. All of them are MLH coaches.

As the hackathon was for 2 days, hence all the team were arrived on Friday and stayed in Kathmandu BernHardt College. When the hackathon was started each of the team has to submit their projects and the projects were arbitrated by the judges of the hackathon. The judging procedure was done by the science/expo method.

Manish Bhattarai, the Lead Organizer of BernHack 2020 said, After all the insights and feedbacks we can now say, BernHack may not be the biggest hackathon in Nepal but it is surely the best.” Later on, he also added that We are so proud that we were able to bring the first-ever MLH member hackathon in Nepal. Verifying the statement by Manish Bhattarai, Joe Nash, the MLH representative added, These guys have organized this hackathon as same as hackathons in North America.

Team Selection Process

The team selection process is very important at every Hackathon. And in this BernHack, the judging was done by the science/expo method. At first, the judges visit the table of each team where the team showed their demos to them. After completion of everyone’s expo, the time for the result came. And finally, the judges selected 6 best teams and announce them as Top 6 finalists.

After that, selected 6 teams presented their ideas in front of the crowd. And by the majority of judges, the team “Ascol Guys” becomes the winner of BernHack 2020. Similarly, the runner up was “Yarsa” and 2nd runner up was “Team Phoenix “.

By sure, the mentors of BernHack expertise in different domains who were there for each of the teams so that the team can build up their ideas and can perform better.

As the say’s maybe BernHack 2020 was not the biggest event in Nepal but it was prominently best. All the team members and juries were very happy and satisfied with the event and there was positive energy for the second edition of BernHack incoming next year.
