HTC has officially launched the HTC U12+, its flagship phone for 2018. Unlike its predecessor the U11, the U12+ has minimum bezels and equipped with quad-camera, the company has done some significant improvement in the camera department, whereas the back of the device is almost identical to that of the U11. This device is expected to compete with the likes of OnePlus 6, Galaxy S9, and Huawei P20 pro.
Talking about the design, the top and bottom bezels have been shrunk to the minimum and the side bezels are almost gone. The fingerprint is at the back of the device right below the LED light. The speaker is on the front of the device. The company has discarded the 3.5mm headphone jack and the physical buttons. The volume rockers and lock button now use haptic feedback (vibration), giving users the feeling of click when pressed. The device comes in 3 colors, the Ceramic Black, the Flame Red, and the Translucent Blue. The Translucent Blue is the limited version of the device and comes with a translucent back which gives you the sneak peek of the internals of the device.
The company has equipped the HTC U12+ with the latest internals. The display is a 6-inch Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440) Super LCD6 display(~537ppi) with 18:9 aspect ratio, supports HDR10 and comes with Corning Gorilla 5 protection. Also, you would be happy to know that the display comes without a notch. It is powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC. The device comes with a 6GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of internal storage and can be expanded via microSD card up to 2TB.
There are two front-facing cameras and two rear-facing cameras on the device capable of taking images with bokeh effects(also known as portrait mode). Talking about the rear cameras, the main camera is a 12MP Wide-angle camera with HTC UltraPixel™ 4 (1.4μm Pixel size and ƒ/1.75 Aperture) and the secondary camera is a 16MP Telephoto lens with Pixel size of 1.0μm and ƒ/2.6 Aperture. The cameras feature the UltraSpeed Autofocus 2 ( Phase detection + Laser autofocus), Pro mode with manual control, 32 sec. long exposure and RAW format support. The front-facing camera is a Dual 8MP camera(1.12μm pixel size, f/2.0 aperture). Both front and rear cameras are capable of taking portrait pictures. The rear cameras can record 4K video at 60fps and slow-motion videos of 1080p@240fps. The cameras have sonic zoom technology which means the camera focuses on the audio of the place where you have zoomed.
The device still has the Edge sense but now comes with additional features like double tapping and holding the edges to perform different shortcuts. The phone is an IP68 dust and water resistant and comes with the face unlock feature. The device packs the Android 8.0 OS and a 3500mAh battery and supports dual SIM with 4G LTE.
