After several weeks of speculation and leaks, Xiaomi has finally launched the Mi Max 3. Mi Max was first released in 2016 with a huge 6.44-inch display and was the largest phone from Xiaomi. Mi Max was targeted for South-Asian markets especially for India. After amazing success, the company has given continuity to its lineup and launched the 3rd generation of the lineup, the Mi Max 3. The device comes with Android 8.1 (Oreo) based MIUI 9.5 out of the box.
The Mi Max 3 has an immersive 6.99Full HD+ IPS LCD display. The phone has the latest 18:9 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 and a pixel density of 350ppi. Mi Max 3 does not have a notch and comes with minimum side bezels and a bit more bezels on top and bottom. The phone has a solid unibody metal design with the antenna band on the top and bottom of the back of the phone.
Camerawise, the Mi Max 3 sports the same dual-camera setup as in the Redmi Note 5 AI. The 12MP primary camera (1.4um pixels) is coupled with a secondary 5MP shooter (1.25um pixels). An 8MP camera is put on the front of the phone for selfies. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of taking pictures with Bokeh Effects(aka Portrait Mode) and uses Xiaomi’s AI camera effects to take better pictures.
The Mi Max 3 is powered by the Snapdragon 636 chipset with an octa-core 1.8GHz CPU. In terms of storage, the Mi Max offers two variants one with the 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM and the other with a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM. The storage can be further expanded to 256GB using a microSD card but Xiaomi has put a hybrid Sim slot which is really disappointing.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C, and dual VoLTE. The phone has dimensions of 176.15 x 87.4 x 7.99 mm and weighs 221g. The device is powered by a huge 5500mAh battery which can also double up as a power bank. The phone also supports Quick Charge 3.0 which allows it to gain 71 percent of battery by charging it for an hour.
The Mi Max 3 will be available in three color options – Black, Champagne Gold, and Blue. The phone is priced at ¥1699($250) for the 4GB/64GB variant and ¥1,999($300) for the 6/128GB variant. Mi Max is only available to buy in China for now but the Global version of the device will be launching soon.
