Microsoft To Acquire GitHub

Microsoft Corp. has reportedly agreed to acquire GitHub Inc. according to Bloomberg.  GitHub is popular code repository among programmers of the world. The company was last valued at $2 billion back in 2015 but that was 3 years back. Microsoft will certainly have to pay more than that on today’s date. Microsoft is expected to make the announcement today.

GitHub is a huge code repository which is not only used by programmers but also used by big companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon etc to host their program documentation and codes storage. GitHub has “27 million software developers working on 80 million repositories of code,” according to Bloomberg.

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella has been pushing the company towards open source programming since his starting days. Microsoft has since been investing more and more in open source programming and also brought Ubuntu on Windows 10. GitHub has been almost an indispensable part of the programming world in today’s date so this step from Microsoft may create a revolution in the programming field and change the programming ecosystem forever.
