A lot of people still don’t know what to check before buying any smart gadget. Yes, it is really difficult for a non-techy or a layman person to decide which watch is better for him or her. But this question itself is really broad, as the decision is depending on a lot of things like what exactly buyer looking for, he wants good design or features and in a feature, there are 100 of things.
A person who is a traveler and travel a lot in humid and beach places. He must go for a water resistant and dust resistant watch. On the other hand, a person who is more social he wants a watch that keeps him updated on his social media. However, there are still a lot of things that need to be checked before buying any gadgets.
Every smartwatch is going to be different, and that’s okay. However, if the watch you’re looking at is missing one of these crucial features, you might want to choose another model or wait for something better.

Ingress Protection (IP Certified)

It is often seen watches are IP Certified IP68 or IP Certified IP67. What does IP XX Certified mean?
Well, IP is Ingress Protection, The watch is undergone some tests by a certified body and then decided how much dust and water resistant watch is.
The numbers that follow IP each have a specific meaning. The first digit indicates the degree of protection from moving parts, as well as the protection of enclosed equipment from foreign bodies. The second defines the protection level that the enclosure enjoys from various forms of moisture.

Water Resistant

The word itself describes that the watch is water resistant, which means your watch is safe in the water. But does it really safe in any depth or any pressure of water?
The answer is no. Usually watches bears some meters of water pressure. What pressure they actually bear is always written in watch description (like 5-meter depth, < 1meter etc). This means if you are underwater and wearing your water-resistant watch, then you must be careful as your watch does not bear water pressure at every level.

Compatible Operating System

Every watch does not support every operating system. If the watch says it supports android / IOS, this doesn’t mean watch support all android/IOS versions. Be careful before buying any watch. Check if it supports your mobile phone or not. As smartwatches sync’s themselves with the smartphone, that is why you hear you the mobile bell on your watch or receive messages on your watch. So if your watch is not supporting the mobile Operating system it is useless.
It is always written that which OS and which version is compatible with the watch, in watch compatibility section, check it before buying.

Display

The higher the display resolution(in DPI(Dot Per Inch) or pixels), the more clear view you will see. The dimensions of watches are always measured diagonal. So don’t get confused the 3 inch doesn’t mean 3inch height or width, it means from 1 corner to another opposite corner.

Connectivity

There are two types of connectivity’s one is wired and second is wireless. Usually, wired connectivity is a micro USB port, which is used for data transfer and charging.
The wireless connections option are

  • Bluetooth
  • WIFI
  • Near-field communication(NFC)

All above wireless connection options are used to transfer data. Bluetooth can also be used to connect with Bluetooth headphones or other Bluetooth devices. Wifi is used for wireless internet connectivity. By connecting with WIfi device you can use internet on your smartwatch.

Sensors

With the advancement of technology, a lot of sensors got introduced in smartwatches. Like accelerometer, pedometer, gyroscope etc. You can choose a watch that has your required sensors.
There are many smartwatches that include even more features than this. That said, these are the things you should absolutely look for when you’re picking out a new watch to buy. So next time before buying any smartwatch you must know exactly what your requirements are and what does really smartwatch is delivering.
