Oppo Find X Impressions: Truly Bezel-less?

Smartphones seem to follow certain trends every year, and with the passing of each year, a new trend comes to the market. The year 2018 has been the year of bezel-less smartphones. Big companies like Apple, LG, and OnePlus unveiled their flagships with almost minimum bezels but kept that notch which was heavily criticized by many people. People found the notch annoying whether it was as big as of the iPhone X or as small as of the OnePlus 6. Oppo seems to have found the solution to that problem, with the launch of its latest flagship the Find X. The Oppo Find X has a whopping 93.8% screen to body ratio, highest on a smartphone to date. So, the components that were on the notch, like front-facing camera and sensors, where did they go? Oppo has cleverly implemented the same type of motorized popup camera technology used by the Vivo Nex but in a more effective and attractive fashion.

When you turn on the camera app, the Stealth camera pops up. The entire top of the phone motorizes up an reveal the cameras. Both the front and rear cameras are hidden in “Stealth 3D” camera tray until the camera app is opened. The tray reveals the 25MP front-facing shooter, a 3D facial scanning system and the dual rear cameras(16-megapixel + 20-megapixel). The 3D facial scanning system helps you take a better selfie. The company has ditched the fingerprint sensor in favor of the 3D facial scanning, same as done in the iPhone X.

The device has a 6.4 inch OLED 1920 x 1080  display with a top bezel of 1.91 mm, side bezels of 1.65 mm and a bottom chin measuring 3.4 mm which gives the device so much of the screen. The edges of the phones are curved as in the Samsung Galaxy S9 and co. The back of the device is made up of glass and the frame is a metal. The glass back makes the device more fragile. Also, I have been wondering what kind of cover system will be introduced for this phone.

Apart from its unique design, the Find X has all the internals of a flagship. The phone is run by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB of RAM and offers up to 256GB of storage. It has a 3,730mAh battery with Oppo’s VOOC fast wired charging that’s similar to OnePlus’ Dash Charge. The Find X is accompanied by Android 8.1 Oreo with Oppo’s Color OS customizations. Color OS borrows a lot of ideas from iOS and Samsung’s spin on Android. The body design as well the software experience is a combination of the iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9. The device lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack.
